Breaking the 2-hour marathon barrier has been the holy grail of running. Is this something that could really be done? A new article in the NY Times examines the latest research and efforts to make this come true (see link). Is this a worthy goal? Mary Wittenburg is quoted as saying that the focus should be on competition, not race times. I agree. I’d rather see the world’s best compete against each other, rather than follow a highly-engineered effort at breaking an arbitrary barrier. What do you think?
