Rock 'n' Roll Marathon and 1/2Rock D.C. with Us! at the Rock and Roll USA Marathon and Half Marathon on March 17, 2012. If you are running any spring marathon, half marathon, or  10 miler in late March or early April, this program will get you to the start, ready to go!

Train Smart D.C. is an 8 week comprehensive program by the best and brightest in running coaching, sports nutrition, and injury prevention.

We’re coming together to help you get to the finish better, faster, and smarter!

This innovative program eliminates junk miles, paring down training to three essential runs per week, adding essential nutrition principles to fuel for the finish, and adding gait analysis for technique improvement and injury prevention.

Runners will train for their best performance in less time and avoid the burnout that come from running too much.

Start Date

January 21 at 9:00 a.m. Training runs are Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. leaving from Dupont Circle. Some runs may leave from Georgetown and Bethesda. See the training schedule.


Registration Fee of $499 includes:

  • 45 minute individualized video gait analysis with Kevin to focus on improved performance and/or injury prevention.
  • Sports nutrition fueling plan. Individual 60-minute consultation with Rebecca to develop a customized nutrition plan.
  • Specialized full or half marathon training plan with Jeff.
  • Weekend group training. Don’t like running alone? No problem! Join the group for our 9 a.m. runs on Saturdays/Sundays leaving from Dupont Circle, Georgetown, or Bethesda. Each run will start with a brief “team talk” on important topics related to training preparation and racing. Schedule forthcoming.
  • Copy of Smart Marathon Training Jeff’s new book that shows runners how to eliminate junk miles and cross train to prevent injury.
  • Weekly email with training, nutrition, and injury prevention tips.

Jeff is a certified running, cycling, and triathlon coach, and is the author of "My First 100 Marathons" (Skyhorse Press 2008) and "Smart Marathon Training" (Velo Press 2011). An obviously addicted runner, Jeff has run at least one marathon in every state and on 6 continents, including marathons in South Africa, China, Bangkok, and Antarctica. Jeff is available for group, one-on-one, and virtual coaching. Options include: 1. Basic Training Plan. This includes a customized training schedule geared towards a goal race, with a detailed running schedule that would include all distances and target times for each workout, including speedwork, tempo, and endurance sessions. 2. Complete Fitness and Race Plan. This includes the plan listed above, plus the non-running workouts and drills that runners need for better overall fitness and performance. You would get strength & core workouts, as well as run-specific training drills and stretches. 3. Virtual Coaching. This includes all of the above, implemented on a week-by-week basis. We review each week's progress at week's end so that adjustments can be made. The program is tailored to suit you right up to race day. It involves more contact, on a weekly or even daily basis. 4. Full Coaching for athletes in the Washington DC area. All of the above, plus a weekly workout together including speedwork, drills, and strength training. 5. Individual track sessions.
